Newly Diagnosed Families Weekend
- Greater Manchester & Essex
- FREE for members
Our Newly Diagnosed Families weekends (NDW) are free events that support parents who have recently found out their child has a bleeding disorder. We bring together experts in bleeding disorders care to share knowledge and experiences so families get the help they need to ensure their child receives the best care.
Our NDW events are open to families with a child/children (aged 0 to 14 years) diagnosed with a bleeding disorder in the past year.
Throughout the weekend, you will meet a range of people involved in bleeding disorders care, including:
- haematology consultant
- clinical nurse specialist
- play specialist
Our sessions include presentations and demonstrations, giving everyone the chance to ask questions and find out what they need to know. It allows you to find out more about your child’s bleeding disorder. The weekend aims to give a brief overview of the bleeding disorders that affect the families attending each event.
While you are attending the sessions, there is a specialised crèche nearby for 0-14 year old (with staff experienced in looking after children with bleeding disorders) where the children have the opportunity to be cared for in a safe, secure and fun environment. Our mobile crèche ”zones” are created for specific age ranges, from structured activities to free play, so all children enjoy the experience.
For the older children attending the activities will include console games in a designated chillout zone, movie time, board & card games. Older children are welcome to attend our presentations.
We have two newly diagnosed weekends booked for 2022:–
Please note our Newly Diagnosed Weekends are very popular, and there is often a waiting list.
Families attending must be members of The Haemophilia Society, which is free to join. If you are not a member, please click the link to join – Become A Member.
