First virtual member conference a great success!

Written by Aaron Dennis, November 16, 2020

On Saturday 14 November we held our first virtual member conference and AGM, where we brought together our members, experts in bleeding disorders, trustees, ambassadors and staff team.

Initial feedback has shown that all involved found the day to be both interesting and inspirational. We covered a wide range of topics including gene therapy, ageing with a bleeding disorder, rare bleeding disorders, Talking Red and VWD – know your type. All sessions also included an interactive Q&A which opened up discussions further.

We also announced the results of our trustee election as part of the AGM. We are so pleased to share that Sonia O’Hara has been re-elected and will continue in her role with The Society.

Sonia said: ‘Absolutely delighted, humbled and thankful to all members of The Haemophilia Society who voted for me to remain as trustee on their board for another 3 years It is an honour to serve the bleeding disorders community’

We also welcomed our new trustee – Anna Geffert to the board. Anna who has severe vwd, brings a wealth of experience in PR, communications and fundraising.

Anna said: “I want to support The Society and its members to ensure the amazing work you do across the board continues and we are able to keep pushing to find better treatments and even cures, leaving a positive legacy for my children and their children to come.”

Congratulations to Sonia and Anna – we look forward to working together!

Finally, we want to say a huge thank you to everyone who attended the conference, with special thanks to our speakers. We will continue our work and, with words of our chairman, Clive Smith, make sure that every person with a bleeding disorder has a voice and a choice!
