PM urged to act on compensation

Written by Jessica Bomford, July 5, 2023

We, along with some of the UK’s leading campaign groups, have written to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, urging him to intervene to get compensation paid to people infected and affected by the contaminated blood scandal.

The letter is signed by Kate Burt, our Chief Executive, six campaign groups and one independent campaigner. They call on Mr Sunak to authorise ministers to accept, in full, the recommendations made on compensation by Sir Brian Langstaff, Chair of the Infected Blood Inquiry, in April.

They conclude: ‘At this eleventh hour, we call on you to demonstrate that
government can be trusted to deliver justice by accepting Sir Brian’s recommendations in full
and taking immediate steps to get compensation done now.’

You can read the letter here.

Mr Sunak will give evidence to the Infected Blood Inquiry on Wednesday, 26 July 2023.
