Raise money for us at work

Hannah was so happy with the support her family received from the Haemophilia Society (THS) that she nominated us to receive a donation from her employer, the Bank of Ireland.

The bank’s Begin Together Fund makes payments of £450 every three months to charities that are close to the hearts of their employees. We’re really grateful that Hannah’s name was drawn out of the hat and we received their generous donation.

Hannah’s two sons Charlie, aged two and Noah, aged one, have severe haemophilia B. She and her husband Josh attended a Newly Diagnosed Weekend in Northern Ireland earlier this year which they found really helpful.

Hannah said: ‘We really enjoyed the Newly Diagnosed Weekend. We’d never really met anyone whose children had haemophilia and there were parents there with multiple kids with a bleeding disorder which was also reassuring. Charlie was just about to start treatment, so we learnt a lot about what to expect.

‘I’m grateful my employer offers this fund that’s helped me give something back for all the support we’ve had from the Haemophilia Society.’

‘When Charlie was first diagnosed I spent as much time as I could on the Haemophilia Society’s website, reading all the member stories and the information pack. I found it really comforting to know that there were other people going through the same experiences as us. I’ve printed off the information so many times, as it’s been a useful way of helping to explain haemophilia to friends who want to understand more about the condition.’

Newly back to work from maternity leave, Hannah is delighted that she’s helped to raise much-needed funds for THS. She said: ‘It was my second week, so it was a lovely way to start. My manager calls THS ‘the boys’ charity’ and encouraged me to nominate them – I’m grateful my employer offers this fund that’s helped me give something back for all the support we’ve had.’

Does your employer give donations to charities? Many firms have schemes which allow employees to nominate their charity of choice to receive a donation. You can also donate through payroll giving or by asking your employer to match-fund money you raise for us. Speak to our fundraising team on [email protected] to find out more.
